About Michael
I started my journey in higher education at Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) as a part-time student working full-time. One of my favorite courses was creative writing. Working and attending college, I discovered my passion for being an educator and student-centered professional. I love being in an environment where people are doing something to help better themselves and those around them. I enjoy being part of that process.
After earning an Associate of Arts with an emphasis in English at PPSC, I transferred to UCCS where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English, then at CSU-Pueblo I earned my Master of Arts in English while teaching undergraduate English courses. I write a lot of fiction and am deeply involved in the poetry community in Colorado Springs.
After graduating, I taught ENGL 1308, 1310, and 1410 at UCCS for 3 years. I loved teaching through the lens of centering the lived experiences of my students. I still teach in the UCCS Gateway Seminar Program (GPS). Joining the Excel Multiliteracy Center allows me to continue to support student development and success through our many services, events, and with our amazing consultants.
